BRM Industry Engagement What We Heard Report

On November 12, 2020, the Minister of Agriculture and Resource Development hosted a Business Risk Management (BRM) engagement event in preparation for the annual meeting of federal, provincial and territorial (FPT) agriculture ministers. Stakeholders participated in discussing potential long-term BRM alternatives.  Twenty-seven sector participants attended the 90-minute virtual GoTo Webinar event. Participants represented provincial and national commodity associations and brought diverse perspectives to the dialogue.  Details from the engagement can be found in the attached report.

The Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development 2019 Winter Engagement Report

On December 11, 2019, Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development hosted an agriculture and food stakeholder engagement event. This event was an opportunity for industry members to receive an update on departmental changes and to meet the Honourable Minister Blaine Pedersen. The department also hosted an industry speaker panel on disruption with follow up attendee discussions. The event report highlights some key themes from these discussions with possible steps required to prepare for the challenges and capture the opportunities disrupters' presents.

Manitoba Agriculture 2018 Winter Consultation Summary Report
On November 23, 2018, Manitoba Agriculture hosted an agriculture and food stakeholder consultation to discuss the value, effectiveness, and future direction of Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs) in meeting industry needs.  A summary report from the consultation has been prepared and is available for review.

 Sustainability Review for the Manitoba Horse Racing Industry
Manitoba Agriculture, through the Request for Proposal process, engaged BluSlate Inc. to conduct an independent third party sustainability review of the horse racing Industry in Manitoba. Report submitted to the Government of Manitoba in October 2018.

Modernizing the Agricultural Crown Lands Program

Manitoba Agriculture is aiming to recognize modern agricultural practices in the administration of the Agricultural Crown Lands (ACL) Program. Efficient, innovative use of agricultural Crown lands provides an opportunity to increase the forage productivity to generate more feed, which enables the growth of the livestock industry. Consultation on the Next Policy Framework
Manitoba Agriculture is in the process of developing programs, activities and services that support sustainable growth, resiliency and competitiveness of Manitoba’s agricultural sector. Closed on May 15, 2017. 
 
Manitoba Food and Agri-Product Processor Survey
Manitoba Agriculture conducted a survey with Manitoba's food and agri-product processing sector in 2017.  The purpose of the survey was:
  •  To inform development of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) federal/provincial/territorial funding program for agri-processors.
  •  To provide an outreach opportunity between Manitoba Agriculture Food and Agri-Product Processing Branch and industry stakeholders.
Consultation to Review The Agricultural Producers' Organization Funding Act
Manitoba Agriculture was seeking input about the current model of funding for Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP). Closed on March 9, 2017.
 
Next Policy Framework Consultation on Food Innovation Capacity - Winnipeg
On January 24, 2017, Manitoba Agriculture held a symposium and group discussion on food innovation as part of its consultation under the Next Policy Framework (NPF). Ministerial Industry Consultation on Growing the Agriculture Sector - Portage la Prairie

Manitoba Agriculture hosted industry consultations with more than 100 stakeholder groups from Manitoba's diverse agriculture industry to discuss industry strengths, as well as opportunities for improvement and growth on July 12, 2016.  Shared documents from the meeting include:

MAFRD/Industry Growing Forward Consultation - Next Policy Framework
MAFRD hosted a stakeholder meeting to review progress made on Growing Forward 2 programs and to initiate discussions on the next agriculture policy framework. Closed on November 30, 2015.

2015 Rural Veterinary Task Force
The task force reviewed the current veterinary structure in rural Manitoba, people’s needs regarding veterinary care - with an emphasis on animal health and welfare - biosecurity, food safety on farms and the needs for maintaining a stable veterinary infrastructure. Closed on November 6, 2015.

Ag Risk Management Task Force
The scope of this review is to consider the ability and role of business risk management programming in maintaining a foundation for a profitable agriculture industry in Manitoba as it experiences the challenge of a changing climate. Closed on September 30, 2015. 

Manitoba Grain Innovation HUB
A consultation for designing a HUB that works for the grain industry in Manitoba closed on March 2, 2015.

Small Scale, Local Food Production and Processing
The consultation for small scale food production and processing closed on September 15, 2014. In January 2015, Dr. Wayne Lees, chairperson of the Small-Scale Food Manitoba working group, presented the working group's report (PDF 1.9 MB).

Food Safety Regulation
The consultation for the new Food Safety Regulation closed on June 11, 2014. 0
