Manitoba now offers the latest standardized exams. The online exam format is the same as our previous exams, with a passing requirement of 70, and there are now 110 questions per exam.

The Water and Wastewater Facility Operators Regulation addresses the classification of water and wastewater facilities and certification of operators in Manitoba.

Manitoba Operator Certification Exams:

Exam Registration Information:
- All applicants must register and pay the exam registration fee of $150 at least two weeks before writing the exam.
- You may apply and pay online or fill out the exam application form and mail it with payment to the program office.
- You will receive an email confirmation that you are registered to write the exam and confirming time and location at least five working days before the exam date.
- Only operators who have registered and paid for the exam and received email confirmation will be allowed to write the exam.
- All exam locations require a proctor fee to be paid on or before the exam date. You must contact the proctor at the preferred location directly for payment details.
Certification Exam Information:
- There are 18 different exam categories: Small Water, Small Wastewater, and Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment, and Wastewater Collection I, II, III, and IV. Contact the Certification Program if you are unsure which exam to write.
- The passing grade is 70% in all categories; there are now 110 questions.
Passing the certification exam is one of the requirements for certification. - Exam result is valid for 3 years. After passing the exam, you must complete an application form to receive your operator certificate.
- Operators must wait 4 months after failing to pass an exam before re-writing.

WPI's Need-to-Know Criteria describes the core competencies that are covered on the exams and are available online at https://www.gowpi.org/services/abc-testing/examination-resources/ along with other exam study materials.
Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Exam Preparation Courses are provided by RRC Polytech. Operators should contact RRC directly if they wish to register for exam prep courses. Operators should note that attending a course is not a requirement for writing the certification exam.
