Current Fire Update Report
April 30, 2024
The Manitoba Wildfire Service advises that today’s fire danger level is moderate to low across the province, but with spring conditions wildfires can be fast-moving. Fuels such as matted grass, dry dead vegetation are flashy fuels and can be easily ignited even in low to moderate conditions, especially on windy days.
There are 6 active wildfires currently burning in Manitoba. There have been 17 wildfires so far this year with a yearly average of 24 wildfires by this date. All 17 fires have been human caused.
Visit Manitoba’s Wildfire Service webpage for up-to-date information.

Current Restriction Information
There are no fire or travel restrictions in effect at the current time in Manitoba however there may be times when high to extreme fire danger conditions require the Manitoba government to implement fire and travel restrictions within the province.
Manitoba Emergency Management Organization (EMO) continues to support wildfire response activities in collaboration with provincial and federal partners, including Manitoba Wildfire Service. Manitoba EMO will continue to monitor the situation and provide support as required to local authorities.
Provincial burning permits are required for outdoor fires set within the Burn Permit Area from April 1 to Nov. 15 annually. Provincial burn permits issued under The Wildfires Act may be cancelled or restricted at short notice if fire danger conditions require. The province will not issue burning permits for areas where municipalities have already implemented burning restrictions. The public is reminded to contact a local municipality or the local Manitoba Natural Resources office for more information. Burn permit holders are reminded to check weather conditions, have adequate suppression equipment and ensure proper fuel breaks are in place before burning. Never leave an outdoor fire unattended and always extinguish it before leaving, exercise caution when in or near forested areas.
