Recreational Fishing

Manitoba's recreational fisheries management balances strong conservation with enhancement of fishing opportunities for Manitobans and visitors to enjoy our world-class recreational fisheries. Surrounded by sweeping clear-blue skies and pristine wilderness, anglers can enjoy a wide range of fishing opportunities from trophy lake trout fishing in Northwest Manitoba, to catching rainbow, tiger, and brown trout in one of Manitoba’s stocked trout waters, to reeling in monster channel catfish on the Red River, to ice-fishing for walleye on Lake Winnipeg and much more.

Recreational fishing is a valued industry in Manitoba, generating over $600 M to Manitoba’s economy each year (Travel Manitoba) and provides numerous employment opportunities to Manitobans. Recreational fisheries are managed through licences, possession limits, size restrictions and species-specific seasons. Manitoba preserves fishing traditions through conservation practices and the support of anglers from around the world. Advancing technology provides anglers the ability to immediately measure, photograph and release fish quickly to support the sustainable management of fish populations. Electronic devices and bump boards have become a regular part of every angler's tackle. Handling fish with care will protect world-class angling adventures for years to come.
