GEOSCIENTIFIC PAPER
GP2022-2
Quaternary stratigraphy and ice-flow indicator data for the Gillam region, Manitoba (parts of NTS 54C, D, 64A)
by M.S. Gauthier, T.J. Hodder and M. Ross
Surficial geology studies were conducted within an area of about 5550 km2 in the Gillam region of northeastern Manitoba. The methods of this project were to 1) investigate the surficial geology; 2) investigate the subsurface geology where exposed along river sections; 3) interpret the glacial history; and 4) acquire physical properties from till sampling. The goal of this work is to determine the effect of multiple glaciations on till deposition, in a zone of transition from a multi-till stratigraphy within the Hudson Bay Lowland to a single till stratigraphy over the Precambrian shield. Getting closer to this goal, we have defined nine informal lithostratigraphic units in the Gillam area that were deposited during at least four glaciations.
This publication supersedes Data Repository Items DRI2013005 and DRI2014003.

GP2022-1
Characterization of ultramafic-hosting metasedimentary rocks and implications for nickel exploration at Phillips Lake, Thompson nickel belt, central Manitoba (part of NTS 63O1)
by C.G. Couëslan
The primary objective of this study is to determine the affinity of the rocks that host the mineralized ultramafic intrusion in southern Phillips Lake (e.g., Ospwagan group, Paint sequence, or Archean gneiss?). If it is shown that rocks of the Paint sequence can host mineralized ultramafic intrusions, it will generate a new exploration target for companies working in the Thompson nickel belt. In addition, the findings of this study strongly suggest that the Paint sequence rocks are distinct from the Ospwagan group rocks defined in previous studies.

OF2022-1
Palynological analyses of subtill sediments from four sites in the western Hudson Bay Lowland region (parts of NTS 53O; 54A, C, D)
by A.S. Dalton, S.A. Finkelstein, T.J. Hodder and M.S. Gauthier
The Hudson Bay Lowland contains subtill organic-bearing sediments that were deposited during previous ice-free periods in the region. This important sedimentary archive can be used to reconstruct the paleoenvironment during these previous nonglacial periods. This study analyzes the palynology of subtill sorted sediments at four previously unstudied sites in the western Hudson Bay Lowland region. The pollen assemblages at all examined intervals are dominated by boreal and peatland taxa that are largely similar to Holocene pollen assemblages in the Hudson Bay Lowland.
