Pregnancy
The Early Childhood Development section describes the investments made to support families and communities in helping children get the best possible start in life.

Parent Child Coalitions bring resources together through community organizations across the province to support parenting, improve children's nutrition and literacy, and build capacity for helping families in their own communities.

The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Strategy helps with the prevention of alcohol use during pregnancy and intervention, care and support of individuals living with FASD.

Families First offers home visiting supports to families with children, from pregnancy to school entry.

The Healthy Baby Prenatal Benefit is a monthly cheque available to income-eligible women to help with eating well during pregnancy.

Healthy Baby Community Support Programs offer social support and informal learning opportunities to encourage early, regular prenatal care and promote healthy infant development.

PAX teaches students autonomous self-control and self-management through collaborating with others for peace, productivity, health & happiness. PAX is an evidence-based, childhood mental health promotion strategy which combines the science from PeaceBuilders, Good Behavior Game & other studies.

Seeds of Empathy is an extension of the Roots of Empathy program for three-to-five year olds that is designed to foster social and emotional competence and early literacy skills and attitudes.

6 to 12 years

Roots of Empathy is an evidence-based, bilingual, universal classroom based program for students from kindergarten to Grade 8 which focuses on building capacity of the next generation for caring and compassionate citizenship and parenting.

Mentoring Programs help to promote healthy lifestyle choices and self-esteem by building positive attachments to a trusted person.

Community School Investigators (CSI) Summer Learning Enrichment Program (SLEP) is a school-based summer day camp for children in grades one to six that aims to prevent summer learning loss and improve opportunities for children in the summer months.

COACH is a 24-hour wrap around program for children with extreme behavioural, emotional, social and academic issues.

Community Schools are able to provide gathering places where adults and children can come together for educational, social, cultural and recreational activities.

Healthy Schools focuses on the development of health promoting strategies for school communities using the principles of comprehensive school health and includes community-based activities, targeted provincial activities, provincial resource development, and other related activities.

Healthy Buddies (pilot) is a peer mentoring initiative that pairs younger students with older students who teach younger students about nutrition, physical activity, and positive self-image.

13 to 18 years

After School Leaders (ASL) is a an after school program that offers students ages 14-18 in Winnipeg the opportunity to explore career options and identify an area that taps their potential and passion within the content areas of arts, science, technology, sports and communication.

The Bright Futures fund supports programs aimed at improving high school graduation rates and increasing access to post-secondary education for disadvantaged and low income students.

Healthy Schools focuses on the development of health promoting strategies for school communities using the principles of comprehensive school health and includes community-based activities, targeted provincial activities, provincial resource development, and other related activities.

Teen Talk offers a continuum of reproductive health, mental health, sexuality, substance use and anti-violence education to youth, in and out of school and throughout the Province.

Teen Clinics improve access to primary care by providing young people with health services, opportunities to learn about the health issues that concern them, and information on health and well being.

Adolescent Parent Interagency Network (APIN) is a network of agencies and professionals in Manitoba who meet monthly with the goal of ensuring high quality service to pregnant and parenting adolescents.
