Support Where the Other Person Lives Outside Manitoba
After a separation or divorce, one parent and/or former spouse or common-law partner may choose to move to another province, territory or country. The process for applying for child or spousal support when one person lives outside Manitoba may look different depending on individual circumstances.
Manitoba has arrangements with all other provinces and territories in Canada, and with many other countries, that help Manitobans obtain, change, and enforce support obligations when one of the parents or former partners lives outside Manitoba.
Provinces, territories, states and countries, referred to as “reciprocating jurisdictions,” are listed in the Inter-jurisdictional Support Orders Regulation.
As of February 1, 2024, Manitoba has arrangements with other countries under the Convention on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance which is a Schedule at the end of The International Child Support and Family Maintenance (Hague Convention) Act.
