From the earliest days of mining, prospectors were a special breed of rockhounds. They came from all walks of life and had one thing in common, a fascination with rocks. For some, prospecting was seasonal and followed land use activities such as hunting or trapping. For others, prospecting may have been their life work. Some had a background in geology. All of these ‘rock legends’ enjoyed the thrill of traveling, studying and exploring geological terrain. Today, prospecting continues to draw people with a spirit of adventure who enjoy the quest of probing the landscape for hidden mineral ‘treasures’. Track a few famous rockhounds who helped make inroads in Manitoba’s geology, and catch the spirit of adventure!
