Employment equity in the competition process
Employment equity is a factor in the competition process when one or more of the employment equity groups are underrepresented in the level, class, series or occupation in the civil service. There are three ways in which employment equity can be applied in the competition:
Equity designated – only individuals that are members of the employment equity group identified in the job advertisement are eligible to apply for the position. In order to receive consideration you must declare your status in the specified employment equity group in your application.
Equity preference – applicants that are a member of the employment equity group identified in the job advertisement are given first consideration. If more than one applicant from an identified group meets the required qualifications the one that is the highest ranked by the selection board will be selected. In order to receive preference you must declare your status in the specified employment equity group in your application.
Regular – Employment equity is a factor in the selection process. You are strongly encouraged to identify in your application if you belong to one or more of the employment equity groups.
How to declare
The easiest way to declare is to state in your cover letter which employment equity group(s) you belong to. You may also complete an Employment Equity Declaration Form (.pdf) and attach it to your application.
