- Check to make sure that you are eligible to apply for the competition based on the competition (posting) type and the equity adv. type.
- The equity adv. type in the job advertisement will indicate how employment equity is being applied in the competition. See Employment equity in the competition process for additional information.
- Prepare your application. Depending on instructions contained in the job advertisement, this may be either a resumé together with a cover letter or an Application for Employment. In some cases there may also be a requirement to include other information (example: for the internship programs, an essay on why you are applying to the program and why you want to work in the public service).
- Make sure your application clearly identifies how you meet the qualifications included in the job advertisement (see Preparing your resumé and cover letter). If you do not demonstrate that you meet the required qualifications for a position you will not be considered.
- Email, mail or fax your application in to the contact provided on the bottom left side of the job advertisement.
- Because of the volume of applications we receive, we can only contact applicants who are being requested to attend an interview. If you haven’t been contacted within a reasonable time period and want to know the status of the competition, you can call or email the Human Resource Services office of the department that issued the job advertisement. If you are calling, please have the job advertisement number ready; if you are emailing please include the job advertisement number in the subject line.
