Renewing a safety fitness certificate in Manitoba
Safety Fitness Certificates (SFC) are valid for one year and must be renewed prior to vehicle registrations. Regulated vehicle registration will be delayed if an SFC is not renewed ahead of vehicle registration.
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure emails renewal applications to carriers head of the SFC expiry date. To renew a SFC in Manitoba, carriers are required to complete and update the information on the renewal application, including:
- Annual kilometres travelled for their regulated vehicles.
- Proof of adequate third party liability (TPL) insurance.
- Proof of a valid Periodic Mandatory Vehicle Inspection for every regulated vehicle the carrier will be registering.
- Optional authorization for a third party (individual or agency) to act on the carrier’s behalf.
Safety Fitness Certificate Auto Renewal
Carriers with exemplary safety performance will now be eligible to undergo a full SFC renewal review every second year, with an automatic renewal issued in the alternate year—eliminating the need to submit a renewal application annually. Carriers not eligible for auto renewal will continue to receive an annual renewal application through the existing process.
View the SFC Auto Renewal PDF for more information about the auto renewal initiative and eligibility criteria.
