Doors Open 2019
The Legislative Library is once again participating in Doors Open Winnipeg. Doors Open is a city-wide event inviting Manitobans and visitors to the province to explore historic buildings across Winnipeg. The Library and the Archives of Manitoba will both be open at the Manitoba Archives Building, located at 200 Vaughan Street.
Library materials celebrating the building’s design and history will be on display, as well as materials celebrating the 100th anniversary of Legal Deposit, the provincial program that ensures the published heritage of the province is preserved and made available for Manitobans now and in the future. Please join the Legislative Library for this exciting event.
The building will be open for visitors on Saturday, May 25, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

100/100 : 100 items celebrating 100 years of preserving Manitoba’s published heritage
The Legislative Library is celebrating the 100th anniversary of legal deposit in Manitoba. Legislated in March 1919, legal deposit is the Library’s program for ensuring that the published history of the province is responsibly preserved and made available for Manitobans now and in the future.
A public event will take place at the Legislative Library (200 Vaughan Street location) on Friday, May 24, 2019 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, celebrating this notable anniversary. A display of Manitoba Government publications, Manitoba trade publications, and serials will be featured.

Legislative Library Annual Closure
To prepare for the upcoming Legislative Session, the Legislative Library of Manitoba will be closed from January 28th to February 1st, 2019. The Legislative Reading Room will be open its normal hours during this period. For more information or for general inquiries during this week, please contact the Legislative Reading Room.

The Legislative Building's annual open house will take place on December 2, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Legislative Reading Room will welcome visitors, and share a special display highlighting the Library's unique collection of Manitoba books and writing.

On April 12th, 2017 the Legislative Library is participating in an event commemorating the 100th anniversary of The Battle of Vimy Ridge. From 1pm to 4pm, and 6pm to 9pm, all are welcome to the Archives Research Room at 200 Vaughan Street in Winnipeg. Come see a display of original records and publications, offering a glimpse into the experience of Manitobans at Vimy Ridge. The display will include:
- Letters written and sent home by several Manitoban soldiers
- Diaries of Manitoban soldiers, recording their experiences at Vimy
- Trench maps used by soldiers
- Newspapers showing reports of the battle
- Wills probated in Manitoba for some soldiers killed at Vimy
- Casualty Lists of Manitobans from communities across the province
- Film footage of veterans reminiscing about the First World War
- and more!

The Legislative Library is once again participating in Doors Open Winnipeg 2015. Doors Open is a city-wide event inviting Manitobans and visitors to the province to explore historic buildings across Winnipeg. The Library will co-host the event with the Archives of Manitoba at the Manitoba Archives Building, located at 200 Vaughan Street.
The Library's 2015 display theme is "A Day in the Life" featuring newspapers from previous May 30ths, dating as far back as the 19th century. Please join the Legislative Library for this exciting event.
The Manitoba Archives Building will be open for visitors on Saturday, May 30th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

On Wednesday, February 11th, 2015 at 1pm, the Manitoba Historical Society will donate 27 rare local histories to The Manitoba Legislative Library. The donation will take place at the Library’s 100 – 200 Vaughan Street location. Complete list of donated local histories (PDF)

To facilitate completion of special projects before the upcoming Legislative Sitting, the main location of the Legislative Library of Manitoba will be closed to clients from January 20 to 24, 2014, inclusive. Public Registry now available:
The Public Registry provides access for projects undergoing environmental assessment under the Environment Act. Copies of license applications, environmental impact statements and licence decisions are available for consultation at the Legislative Library, 100-200 Vaughan Street, Winnipeg.
In addition, the Public Registry database is available for searching on the Conservation and Water Stewardship website.

Catalogue upgrade:
The Legislative Library will be moving to an upgraded catalogue over the Canada Day weekend. The Library catalogue will be unavailable from 11:00 PM CDT on Saturday June 29 to 7:00 AM CDT on Tuesday July 2. After the upgrade the links on this website will reflect the new catalogue. This catalogue provides the same searching experience, with the ability for you to login and request items. Don't forget to update your bookmarks!

NOTICE to Legislative Library Clients:
Effective May 6, 2013, the Legislative Library is implementing retrieval request forms and researcher registration to better preserve and secure library materials, and as a means to gain insight into the use of the library's collections in order to support collection development decisions. New Library Spotlight
A new Library Spotlight feature was released today. This Spotlight focuses attention on the local histories collection of the Legislative Library. This collection is constantly growing, and currently includes over 1100 histories of Manitoba's communities.

The Legislative Building Reading Room will host "From Paper to Tablet: Digitizing Manitoba's Local History Books" on February 11th 2013, from 2 to 4pm. The launch will celebrate the nearly 200 Manitoba local histories recently made available on Manitobia's website, with more local histories to be added to the site in the future. The Honorable Philip S. Lee, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, will attend the event as a special guest. Media and the public are invited to this event. New local histories webpage.

October 4, 2012 - Library launches new website
On Thursday October 4, 2012 the Legislative Library officially lauched its new website. The new design is a result of many months of planning in an effort to create a site that is both aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate. The main goals of the redesign were to make information retrieval quicker while at the same time highlighting the library's unique collection.
August 7, 2012 - Library teams with U of M on Manitobia's local histories digitization project
The Legislative Library is proud to announce the launch of Manitobia's local histories digitization project. The Legislative Library donated hundreds of local histories to be made available online for the first time. People can find information about a variety of Manitoba communities and its people, dating as far back as the 1800's. This project is a partnership between the Manitoba Historical Society, University of Manitoba Archives and Special Collections, University of Manitoba Libraries, and the Manitoba Library Consortium. The books added online are only phase one of this project, with future phases and more digitization on the horizon. Search all of the local histories.
