Kennedy’s promotion to trader
Kennedy’s responsibilities within the HBC were increasing, as was his insistence on a wage increase. Kennedy’s polite, but firm, request was directed to Chief Factor William Hemmings Cook, who had assumed charge of York Factory and responsibility for the inland posts in 1810. That year, Kennedy was promoted to trader and his annual salary was doubled to £50. This was important, as he had a growing family to look after; his fourth child, Elizabeth, was born while he was at Fort Hibernia.
