About MHTIS
The Manitoba Highway Traffic Information System (MHTIS) is a partnership between Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) and the Urban Mobility and Transportation Informatics Group (UMTIG) at the University of Manitoba. MHTIS is planned, designed, implemented, and operated by graduate students and associates of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba, working with Dr. Jonathan Regehr, P. Eng. and Dr. Babak Mehran, P.Eng. Raw data concerning traffic on Manitoba highways is provided by Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure. The data is processed, analyzed, summarized and disseminated by MHTIS in accordance with established procedures. This partnership leverages the strengths and expertise of both institutions to provide valuable insights and data on traffic patterns across Manitoba's highways.
At MHTIS, we are committed to excellence in traffic data collection, processing, analysis, dissemination, and management. Our procedures are guided by industry best practice, as documented in the Traffic Monitoring Practices Guide for Canadian Provinces and Municipalities (Transportation Association of Canada, 2017). Through the unique collaboration between UMTIG and MTI, we pursue innovation in the production, delivery, and application of traffic information to various stakeholders.
About UMTIG
The Urban Mobility and Transportation Informatics Group (UMTIG), founded in the early 1990s as the University of Manitoba Transport Information Group, has been Manitoba’s trusted source of traffic data for three decades. UMTIG researchers regularly collaborate with government agencies, industry professionals, academic researchers, and other partners to provide transportation engineering and planning solutions that address our stakeholders’ toughest issues.
