Fees for Aggregate Mining and Transportation
The Aggregate Mining and Transportation Fees and Agreements Regulation (48/97) under The Municipal Act enables municipalities to pass by-laws to collect fees from aggregate operators to offset municipal costs associated with aggregate mining. The Regulation prescribes a maximum aggregate mining fee based on the tonnage of materials produced by operations as well as an aggregate transportation levy based on tonnage per kilometer of municipal road used.
For 2024, the following maximum fee rates apply. These rates took effect on January 1, 2024.

Municipalities must amend their existing aggregate by-law to charge the increased fees or pass a new by-law to begin collecting fees.
