Project Description
Main objectives:
To significantly update the Quaternary knowledge in northeastern Manitoba. This includes furthering our understanding of the detailed glacial history and how ice-flow phases affected the geomorphology and till production.
Methodology:
- Helicopter-supported detailed surficial mapping
- Document micro- and meso-scale ice-flow indicators (e.g., glacial striae, roche moutonnées) in northeastern Manitoba
- Improve understanding of regional ice-flow phases
- Sample glacial sediments (till) to investigate compositional patterns (dispersal trains)
- Determination of dispersal distances and transport distances in till.
Benefits:
A strong public geoscience knowledge base is recognized internationally as a key competitive advantage in profiling a jurisdiction’s geological potential and attracting investment in mineral exploration and development. The products from this project will provide direct input to ongoing mineral exploration initiatives in north-central Manitoba.
