In the County Judges Criminal Court of the Western Judicial District Special Sitting

Canada
Province of Manitoba
Western Judicial District

Be it remembered that Mary Rex being a prisoner in the Common Gaol of the said District at the City of Brandon committed for trial on the charge that she at the Municipality of Wallace in the said Western Judicial District on the fifth day of March 1889, feloniously and unlawfully did by force detain one Hilda Blake a child then under the age of fourteen years, to wit of the age of nine years with intent thereby thus to deprive one Alfred P. Stewart the guardian of such child of the possession of the said child and brought before us the Honourable John F. Bain on of the Judges of Her Majesty’s Court of Queens Bench for Manitoba in and for the said Province of Manitoba, on the 20th day of March 1889 and asked in due form if she consented to be tried before a Judge, without the intervention of a Jury, consented to be so tried; and that upon the said 20th day of March 1889 the said Mary Rex being again brought before me us for trial and declaring that she was ready for trial was arraigned upon the said charge, and pleaded not guilty; and the Crown offering us evidence against the prisoner, I find her to be not guilty of the offence with which she is charged, and I accordingly discharge her from custody.

Witness my hand at the City of Brandon in the Province aforesaid, this 20th day of March 1889.
