Manitoba Growth, Renewal and Opportunities for Municipalities (Manitoba GRO)
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Manitoba GRO is an application-based program designed to help Manitoba municipalities advance critical infrastructure that will support growing and sustainable communities. For 2024/25, funding of up to $42 million is being made available through Manitoba’s annual Rural Strategic Infrastructure Basket, delivered under the Strategic Municipal Investment Fund.
Manitoba GRO is available to all Manitoba municipalities located outside Winnipeg. The program will support infrastructure projects under the key investment themes of Renewal, Innovation, and Climate Resiliency:
- Renewal– To renew, renovate, expand, or replace existing infrastructure beyond its current service life
- Innovation – To build or enhance capital infrastructure that better responds to current and anticipated future needs, and utilize proven technology to increase efficiency and effectiveness
- Climate Resiliency – To build infrastructure to withstand or mitigate the effects of climate change, including severe weather events
HOW IT WORKS
Municipalities can apply for funding for capital projects under the following strategic investment funding categories:
- Public Safety
- Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Climate Resiliency
- Fire Stations and Major Equipment
- Roads, Bridges and Active Transportation
- Recreational Infrastructure
- Multi-Modal Transportation
- Solid Waste Management and Organic Waste Diversion
All incorporated Manitoba municipalities outside the City of Winnipeg are eligible to apply to the program. Manitoba GRO will fund municipalities up to 50% of the total eligible project costs. Municipalities are responsible for covering the remaining project costs through direct municipal commitments and other sources secured by the municipality.
HOW TO APPLY
The deadline for submitting a complete Manitoba GRO application form through MMO is December 2, 2024. Applications received after this date will not be considered for funding.
