Applicant Requirements

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Employment Status:
    • Applicants must be employed by a community, First Nations, or institution with an active Operating Agreement with the Province of Manitoba.
  • Educational Qualification:
    • Proof of Grade 12 or equivalent qualification, such as a high school diploma or equivalent academic training.
  • Driver’s License:
    • Proof of a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Age Requirement:
    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Character:
    • Applicants must be of sound mind and good character, free from any criminal involvement in the past three years (e.g., no history of theft or illegal drug activity).
  • Legal and Registry Checks:
    • Police Criminal Record Check (PCRC): Must be completed within the last 30 days.
    • Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC): Must be completed within the last 30 days.
    • Adult Abuse Registry (AAR): Must be completed within the last 12 months.
    • Child Abuse Registry (CAR): Must be completed within the last 12 months.
    • No outstanding criminal charges or involvement in an active criminal investigation.
  • Note:
    1. The Police Criminal Record Check (PCRC) and Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) must be obtained through a Police Service.
    2. Processing times for the Adult Abuse Registry (AAR) and Child Abuse Registry (CAR) checks can take 4 to 6 weeks after submission.
  • Administrative Requirements:
    • Completion of the program Registration Form, along with all Legal and Registry Checks. The Program Coordinator must submit these documents to SafetyOfficerProgram@gov.mb.ca at least 2 weeks prior to the scheduled training date to secure a training place in a Government of Manitoba training class for Level I.
  • Training Requirement:
    • Successful completion of a provincial Safety Officer Training course approved by the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM).
