Project Description

Main objectives:

The main objective of this project is to provide a detailed map of the northern Flin Flon Belt area, which has not been mapped since the 1940's. Specific topics for investigation include stratigraphy, geological structure, geochemistry and the tectonic affiliation of the supracrustal rocks, with a view to their economic potential.

Methodology:

Geological mapping and concurrent geochemical sampling.
Features for investigation include tectonic breaks that may represent block-bounding faults, and environmental indicators that, in conjunction with lithologic and geochemical data, may point to the tectonic setting of particular volcanic terranes.
Documentation of mineralized showings and compilation of geochemical data in order to assess the economic potential of volcanic rock suites in this part of the Flin Flon Belt.

Benefits:

The project will provide important data relating to the economic potential of the various tectonic components in the north part of the Flin Flon Belt. Recent mapping has shown that both arc (high economic potential) and ocean-floor (low potential) volcanic terranes are represented among the juxtaposed fault blocks in the northern Flin Flon Belt.
