Winnipegosis

A white painted, two-storey frame house on an L-shaped plan, with a hipped roof and screened front porch

Designation Date: 16 October 2014
Designation Authority: Village of Winnipegosis

Medd House is valued as the site of the community’s longstanding doctor’s office and its first unofficial hospital (operations were performed on the dining room and kitchen tables until 1927), and one of the last surviving substantial frame houses dating from the early years of Winnipegosis. It was purchased by Dr. A.E. Medd in 1914, when he married Mary Agnes McArthur, and remained in the family until 1910, when it was donated to the Village of Winnipegosis and became a local history museum focussed on interpreting the life and work of Dr. Medd and his family.  The house is noteworthy for its high degree of physical integrity.  It retains nearly all interior and exterior details, including furnishings.
