What is Family Doctor Finder?

If you are looking for a home clinic, Family Doctor Finder can help you find one.

There are two ways to register with the program:

How does Family Doctor Finder work?

When you register with provincial Family Doctor Finder registration services, you will be asked to provide some basic information, and will be given a unique client request number upon registration.

The time for first contact by Family Doctor Finder regional staff may vary depending on program demand. Once regional staff contacts you, they will work with you to find a home clinic, and are available to discuss your individual needs.


What are the hours of operation for provincial Family Doctor Finder Registration Services?

Registration Services is open to receive phone calls from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Online registration is available anytime.


How long will it take for me to find a home clinic?

The length of time for a connection may vary, depending on the availability of providers in your requested area and/or demand for this service.

Once you register, regional staff will discuss available options with you regarding enrollment with a home clinic.


Do I need to register with Family Doctor Finder to enroll in a home clinic?

Registration with the program is voluntary. While many primary care clinics rely on Family Doctor Finder when accepting new patients, clients can still contact local home clinics directly.

Clients who register with the program may also find the program’s health system navigation support helpful.


I want to change my primary care provider or home clinic. Can I still register with Family Doctor Finder?

Yes. However, due to high demand, the current focus of Family Doctor Finder is to help people without a home clinic and/or main primary care provider, find a physician or nurse practitioner.

Depending on the circumstance, it may take longer to find a primary care provider for those individuals wishing to switch providers through the program.


I am not satisfied with my recent match with Family Doctor Finder. What can I do?

Staff do their best to ensure an appropriate first match. We suggest you take all possible steps to resolve the situation with your home clinic. If, immediately after your meet and greet appointment, you are not satisfied with your match – you may contact FDF to discuss your options.


Can I register my family with Family Doctor Finder?

Yes, you can register your family at the same time that you register, or you can register them even if you are not registering for yourself.

We will make every effort to find the same home clinic for all of your family members, but this may not always be possible.


Can Family Doctor Finder refer me to a specialist?

No, we are unable to refer to specialists.


I live on reserve. Can I still use this program?

Yes, any Manitoba resident without a home clinic or primary care provider can register and is prioritized by the program.
